Source: FotoliaAs you get older, changing your skin care products becomes more important, because your skin changes. Often your skin changes its texture - it may become drier, or you may find more blemishes, or you may find that your skin darkens, and loses its glow.

Yes, you can change the appearance of some of these effects with cosmetics, but how can you get back the perfect skin you once had?

You need to change your skin care products as you get older. Your once loved products may no longer work for you - indeed, they may be damaging your skin.

But how do you know which skin care products to choose? It’s best to get some advice. Even if you’ve never had skin treatments before, invest in a couple of treatments so that you can get an expert’s opinion on your skin.

However, don’t buy any new skin care products on your first visit.

This is because you won’t see the full effect of your treatments for a couple of weeks. Then look at your skin carefully: is it moister? Have the discolorations faded?

If you like the new look of your skin, then buy the skin care products your skin care expert used.

Food-based treatments are the latest anti aging skin care at many spas, because customers are becoming wary of chemical-based products.

Food is the hot new spa treatment reports: “‘I was blown away by the results I could get from using food-based ingredients,’ says Oresta Korbutiak, owner of Oresta Organics in Ottawa, whose facial offerings include Chocolate Decadence and Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel. ‘I get better results from food-based products than I did from the chemical lines I used before.’”

So there you have it: it’s time to raid the fridge and the vegetable bin for facials which are not only good enough to eat, but which help your skin too.

In a similar healthy vein, many spas use essential oils for treating mature aging skin and wrinkles. Favorite oils including geranium, lavender and sandalwood.
